Gloucester Park is one of Perth’s premier harness racing venues.
Providing “Entertainment with horsepower” every Friday night, they offer a variety of dining and entertainment spaces to suit almost any occasion.
After joining Gloucester Park in April 2017, HR Advisor Eddie Soto realised he had quite the challenge in front of him. The venue had been trying to maintain a pool of over 200 casuals while only being able to offer them shifts one night a week.
“We just couldn’t give staff enough work to keep them interested. As soon as I’d filled one restaurant, someone from another bar would cancel, or a regular would tell me they’d found permanent work.”
Eddie knew straight away he’d have to rely on a supplier to provide the hospitality staff he needed. His first port of call was the traditional temp agencies, but they lacked the commitment to quality he required.
“It was like the temp agencies were just sending me bodies and didn’t care about the kind of staff I needed. There was no consistency with quality and often the staff were unenthusiastic or just didn’t show up.”
With 9 restaurants and 22 bars across the venue, Eddie needed a solution that would quickly and simply give him access to a large pool of exceptional on-demand staff.
After his General Manager suggested he speak to the team at Sidekicker, Eddie decided to trial the platform by requesting just 2 Sidekicks.
“I’d dealt with so many agencies at this point, I almost wasn’t ready to look at another one. But I read up on the platform and I really liked the concept and how simple it sounded. I liked that I could manage this directly.”
Eddie posted his job on Sidekicker and was blown away by the results.
“It was so simple. I could see exactly who I was getting and the ratings they’d received from other venues. They arrived ready to get things done and we were rapt with how they performed.”
Today, Eddie is using Sidekicker exclusively and loves that he’s stopped dealing with temp agencies. He’s even able to send jobs directly to his favourite Sidekicks by using the talent pools function.
“The manager of each room has their preferred Sidekicks and now they can identify them from their profiles and add them to the talent pool set up for their site. When they need staff they can post jobs just to the best performing Sidekicks without my help.”
Saving almost a full day a week, Eddie is now better able to focus on developing his senior staff rather than constantly chasing up casuals.
“Sidekicker has helped us get back a lot of wasted time. The knowledge we can get decent people quickly, relieves so much stress. We’re using more and more Sidekicks and we’re not looking back.”
